What does ‘CPA Marketing’ actually mean It is a lead generation method used by the big end of town to reward affiliates through aggregated affiliate networks for their referral efforts. Cost per action or cost per acquisition means that a small payment is made to an affiliate each time a prospect takes an action such as entering her zip code or email address in a short web form. The prospect then continues to a longer form and more engaging actions to perform … while the referrer is rewarded and plays no further part in the business transaction.
Conversions are typically high with the CPA model. The web searcher is offered a very desirable reward such as an iPhone, a laptop computer or a $500 gift voucher. She sees that no credit card is required, so she perceives a low risk situation. She enters her postal code or email address as a first ‘baby step’ towards attaining the valuable reward. The marketing affiliate then drops out of the picture. It is up to the business merchant or marketing company to follow up with the lead, processing her through three or four required steps.
